Faces of War Submission Guidelines

‘FACES OF WAR’, is a comic magazine to be published by Sector 13 Comics in Spring 2024. It will feature strips representing a broad range of art styles and storytelling techniques, examining the impact of War on people from all walks of life.

Stories of heroism and adventure are welcome along with tales set around the hardships of the home front or the lives of civilians in occupied countries. Stories can be told from the perspective of heroes, an􀆟-heroes or innocent bystanders, and from either side of any specific conflict.

Our intention is to focus on stories based around WW1 and WW2, but stories set in earlier conflicts would also be welcome. We are not interested in stories of modern conflict currently.

Writers:

Submit script or synopsis to admin@sector13comics.co.uk, anticipated closing date for full scripts, January 2024, but may be closed earlier if we get enough scripts we really like.

Scripts should be a maximum of 10 pages. Preference is for Microsoft Word compliant format.

No science fiction, supernatural horror or fantasy. All other genres welcome, so long as the background to the strip is war. That means romance, humour or other genre stories are welcome.

Please, no polemics or preaching. Political points can be made but must arise from the story, rather than being it's purpose.  Think about raising questions in the readers minds, rather than providing answers. We believe it makes for better storytelling.

For the type of stories we want, look at our range of influences.

There will be very limited space for short, illustrated prose pieces. Either fiction or factual. Please enquire in advance of submission. This will be a very limited opportunity.

Artists:
Please submit expressions of interest along with samples of sequential art to
admin@sector13comics.co.uk as soon as possible.

An indication of any specific interests as to the type of strip you would be interested in drawing can be included with your submission, but is not necessary.

Pleas include details of any experience of working on war strips.

Modest payments will be made to all contributors. These will be agreed in advance with all contributors and will be payable on delivery of final
artwork.
